Former India National Cricket Team batter Ajay Jadeja has said that the Indian team management should give the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah an adequate amount of rest and they will have to make sure that he doesn’t pick up an injury.

Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 due to a back injury. He recently made a comeback to the side in the second T20I game of the three-match series against Australia. The pacer spearhead was expected to feature in the first T20I of the three-match T20I series against South Africa, but he was ruled out of the game due to back pain.

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Jadeja said that Bumrah is a key member of the side and he should be given a break if there are any injury concerns. He elaborated:

“He is a key member of your side and you would want to hold him back. Even if he doesn’t get many games, you want to ensure that he doesn’t get injured. It’s his back that is troubling him again.

“If he needs the rest, then give him a little longer. He’s played two or three games since the last T20 World Cup. If you were okay with him resting for that long, you should make sure that he rests a little more.”

Young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh performed brilliantly in the first T20I against South Africa. In his first over, he castled Quinton de Kock for 1 and then on the last two deliveries of the over, he dismissed both Rilee Rossouw and David Miller for a golden duck. Also, he won the Player of the Match award for his figures of 4-0-32-3 in the T20I series opener at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, September 28.

Meanwhile, Jadeja showered praise on Arshdeep for his stellar performance and said that he is overall a better bowler than Harshal Patel. He stated:

“Harshal Patel wins the battle at the end for the slog overs. But Arshdeep is a better bowler because he can bowl the first over, the 10th over, or the 20th over. He can bowl at any stage. He is just growing in confidence and if he can swing the new ball like that, it’s more of a competition with Bhuvneshwar Kumar than Harshal.

“The game was set up and won by him. Not just with his bowling, he aided with that catch as well where Deepak Chahar got a wicket off a rank long hop which should have been hit anywhere. By the time he took that catch and finished his first spell, India were in the driver’s seat.”
