Premier India National Cricket Team pacer Jasprit Bumrah was not a part of the India National Cricket Team playing XI in the first T20I match of the three-match T20I series against Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team.
The T20I series opener between Rohit Sharma-led India and Temba Bavuma-led South Africa is being played at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, September 28.
The 28-year-old speedster Bumrah recently made a comeback to international cricket after recovering from a back injury, which ruled him out of the Asia Cup 2022.
He played his comeback game against Australia in the second T20I game of the series and conceded 23 runs while picking up 1 wicket. Notably, the second T20I was an eight-overs-a-side-contest. In the third and final T20I of the series, Bumrah went wicketless and conceded 50 runs for the first time in his T20I career.
Jasprit Bumrah had a niggle in the morning – Rohit Sharma
India National Cricket Team won the toss and elected to bowl first in the match. At the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma talked about the changes to the playing XI. He revealed that the star pacer Jasprit Bumrah “had a niggle in the morning” and as a result, he has been ruled out of the game. He said:
“Hardik and Bhuvi are rested from the last series. Pant and Arshdeep come in for them. Bumrah had a niggle in the morning so he misses out and Chahal misses out as well. Deepak Chahar and Ashwin are back.”
“We are gonna bowl first. It was a good wicket when we played here last time. Bit of green covering but it’s gonna be a good batting track. Very critical to continue to do what you’re doing and keep that momentum in this format. Very healthy atmosphere in the group and we also want to make sure to tick all the boxes and so far we have been doing good and we just want to continue to do that,” Rohit Sharma also said.
