IND vs SA: Mohammed Shami, Deepak Hooda Unlikely for South Africa Series; Shreyas Iyer Set To Come In

The hype of the South Africa T20I Series has already begun which promises to be an exciting contest. India has a score to settle with South Africa as earlier in June, Proteas had squared the series by 2-2 and were quite dominant. The Men in Blue would be booming with confidence after thrashing Australia in the T20I Series.

It looks like that Mohammed Shami will have to wait for his return to T20I Side. The speedster hasn’t played any T20I match since the disastrous T20 World Cup 2021. The pacer was affected with Covid-19 due to which he missed the Australian T20I Series.

“There is no medical update about the time that will take for him to be fully fit but currently it does not look good”. According to a source. This could be a huge blow if Shami misses out on this series as he is one of the senior bowlers in the team. No doubt he is a stand-by but he is quite invaluable to the Indian Setup.

Deepak Hooda is out with a back injury which forced him to sit out on the Sunday clash against Australia and it looks unlikely that he will take a part in the T20I Series. These two players could have got a chance to showcase their credentials as this is the last T20I series before T20 World Cup 2022.

Golden Opportunity for Shreyas Iyer

It is believed that Shreyas Iyer may replace Deepak Hooda in the squad. Shreyas is one of the standbys for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The right-handed batter if given an opportunity needs to make it count as still changes can be made to the squad for the marquee event.

Shreyas Iyer is a batter who can play at the top of the order and score heavily; but as there is Suryakumar Yadav it doesn’t look like that he would get a chance to be at the top. It seems unlikely that he will get a chance as the management has no intentions of changing the winning combination.
