South African captain Temba Bavuma will not be taking the field against India in the 5th T20I at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The series decider is set to get underway and both teams will be keen to end on a winning note. Unfortunately for the Proteas, they will be missing their inspirational leader.
Bavuma received multiple body blows in the 4th T20I following which he had to retire hurt. He sustained a left shoulder injury in the process and was forced to walk back.
He hasn’t recovered from the injury and Keshav Maharaj will be the stand-in captain. He confirmed that Reeza Hendricks will be replacing Bavuma at the top of the order.
“Tristan Stubbs, Reeza Hendricks and KG Rabada are back, they replace Temba Bavuma, Marco Jansen and Shamsi. We have gone for the extra batter, hopefully, we’ll look to utilize it while batting upfront,” Maharaj stated.
