Rohit Sharma managed to secure a duck during India’s fruitless chase of 228 against South Africa in the third and final T20I in Indore on Tuesday.

Kagiso Rabada struck the skipper down with the first ball of the Indian innings, an inswinger to the off side. He got a thick inner edge that was directed into the stumps.

India was defeated by 49 runs as Rohit left the game after a 2-ball duck. The Indian captain had just broken a few odd hitting marks in the game’s shortest version with this dismissal. He undoubtedly became the first Indian batsman in T20Is to secure 10 ducks. His third duck of the year came on Tuesday in Indore with a 2-ball zero.

KL Rahul and Virat Kohli follow Rohit on the list of players with the most dismissals without scoring. The current vice-captain has five ducks to his name, whilst the former Indian captain has four dismissals for zero.

Rohit’s career now boasts the unwelcome distinction of having the most men’s T20I dismissals with single-digit scores. When he was dismissed for a score of one or fewer on Tuesday, he overtook Kevin O’Brien, a former hitter for Ireland. O’Brien secured single-digit scores 42 times, followed by former Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim (40), Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi (39), and former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi (39) on the list (37).

“Lot of the guys haven’t been to Australia”: Rohit Sharma

India’s final T20I match before Rohit Sharma & Co. board the plane for the T20 World Cup Down Under, which begins next week, was played in Indore. As several of the 15-man squad are traveling there for the first time, the team will arrive in Australia well in advance to allow for acclimatization.

“Lot of the guys haven’t been to Australia, that’s why we are going there early. We want to play on the bouncy pitches of Perth, we want to see what we can do there. Only 7,8 members of the squad have been to Australia, so we have organized a few practice games.”

“We need to understand what combination we can play. Bumrah is out of the World Cup, so we need to find a bowler who has experience bowling in Australia. Not sure who that bowler is going to be, we will see once we travel to Australia, we’ll find it out there,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation on Tuesday.
