In the second T20I encounter on Sunday, India defeated South Africa by 16 runs to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Flamboyant opener KL Rahul scored another significant half-century.

Rahul scored 57 runs in 28 balls for a strike rate of 203.57, batting at the top of his game against a top-notch Proteas bowling lineup, he smashed 5 fours and 4 sixes.

His score of fifty or more in T20Is was his second in a row. In the first T20I against the Proteas, he received criticism for his poor strike rate; however, in Guwahati, he batted in a completely different manner.

Rahul made the point that openers need to put themselves through a variety of situations in light of his two distinct fifties.

“It is important as an opener to understand what is required on a day and give it your best. It is the mindset I have always played in and will continue to do the same. Satisfying to test yourself in different conditions,” Rahul said in the post-match presentation after being named Player of the Match.

The 30-year-old said that receiving the Player of the Match title caught him off guard because Suryakumar Yadav, in his opinion, had a greater impact on the game.

“I’m surprised I’m getting the award but Surya made the bigger impact. He changed the game. DK doesn’t always get too many balls to face, and he was phenomenal, and so were Surya and Virat,” Rahul said.

Rahul continued to discuss his performance on Sunday by stating that he felt more confident to continue after reaching the boundary off the opening ball.

“The back foot punch off the first ball set me up. When I play on both sides of the wicket, I know my balance is good. It tells me my head is stable. The crowds always turn up in India. It has been a while since cricket has been played in full stadiums. Phenomenal to see,” he concluded.

On Sunday, October 2, the Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team defeated Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team by 16 runs at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati in the second match of a three-match T20I series.
