IND vs SA: Thanks To Keshav Maharaj That He Chose To Bat – Shikhar Dhawan After 7-Wicket Win Over South Africa In 2nd ODI

Shikhar Dhawan’s India National Cricket Team defeated Keshav Maharaj’s South Africa National Cricket Team by 7 wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9.

India lost the toss and got the opportunity to bowl first in the match. The hosts restricted the Proteas to 278/7 in 50 overs with the help of a great bowling performance by pacer Mohammed Siraj and crucial contributions by the remaining bowlers.

From South Africa, Aiden Markram scored 79 runs off 89 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, and Reeza Hendricks scored 74 runs off 76 balls, including 9 fours and 1 six.

Chasing the target openers Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill scored 13 and 28 runs respectively. However, Shreyas Iyer’s outstanding 113* runs knock and Ishan Kishan’s stunning 93 runs knock helped India chase down the target and level the series 1-1. The series decider will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, India National Cricket Team captain Shikhar Dhawan thanked the Proteas captain Maharaj for opting to bat first after winning the toss. He said:

“Worked perfectly well for us, thanks to Keshav that he chose to bat (smiles). Glad that dew came in at the right time.”

Shikhar Dhawan applauded Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer for batting exceptionally well and building a terrific partnership in the match. He also lauded the bowling unit for their brilliant performance against South Africa. He elaborated:

“Ishan and Shreyas batted so well, that partnership was so nice to watch. It was coming on nicely, but it stayed low. Plan was to take on the bowlers in the first 10 overs as we knew it could get difficult in the middle overs. When the dew came, you could see that it got easier.

“ Very satisfied with the bowling unit, they are all young and these are good learnings for them. Especially Shahbaz. All the young boys, I’m so proud that they showed so much maturity.”
