India take on South Africa in a three-match T20I and ODI series starting with the first T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on September 28 from 7.30 pm IST. The second and the third T20I will be played in Guwahati (October 2) and Indore (October 4). Both teams then play a three-match ODI series in Lucknow (October 6), Ranchi (October 9) and Delhi (October 11).
India are heading into this series after completing a 2-1 T20I series win over Australia. In the final T20I on Sunday, the Men in Blue tracked down 188 to win. Virat Kohli (63) and Suryakumar Yadav (69) added a 104-run stand before Hardik Pandya (25 off 16) finished the game for India.
South Africa and India last locked horns in a T20I series in June 2022. During the away tour, South Africa played 5 T20I games against the home team India. The series ended in a 2-2 tie. South Africa won the 1st T20I by 7 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 4 wickets. India won the 3rd T20I by 48 runs and the 4th T20I by 82 runs. The 5th T20I was washed out due to rain. Rishabh Pant led India in that series while Temba Bavuma led South Africa.

India made a league stage exit from the T20 World Cup 2021 and now just have a handful of matches to figure out their perfect playing combination and eradicate any chinks in their armoury. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will not be a part of the Indian team in this series as he will be undergoing some conditioning work at the NCA.
Arshdeep Singh who was undergoing some rehab work in the Australia series will make a comeback. Mohammed Shami continues to be out of the team after being affected by covid. Addressing the death over woes will be the main focus for India in this South Africa series.

South Africa last played a series against England heading into the India series. The ODI series finished 1-1 after the third ODI was washed out due to rain. Ben Stokes announced his ODI retirement as well after being named England’s full-time Test captain. The Proteas lost the Test series 2-1 but won the T20I series 2-1 which was important considering this is the year of the T20 World Cup.
CSA has already named the squad with Temba Bavuma leading the side. The side has enough experienced players to challenge India on their home turf. The series will be important for the Proteas as well to add the final touches to their T20 World Cup 2022 preparations.
