South Africa takes on India in a three-match T20I and ODI series to be played in India starting from September 28 with the first T20I.

After India’s early exit from the Asia Cup, this series becomes an important one for their preparations for the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year. 

The series begins with the first T20I on September 28 in Thiruvananthapuram. The next two T20Is will be played in Guwahati (October 2) and Indore (October 4). The series then moves on to the three ODIs starting with the first ODI in Lucknow on October 6. The second and the third ODI will be played in Ranchi (October 9) and Delhi (October 11) respectively. 

South Africa played a five-match T20I series earlier this year in India. The series ended 2-2 with the decider in Bengaluru washed out due to rain. India are yet to beat South Africa in a T20I bilateral series at home since 2018. Temba Bavuma led the Proteas in that series while India was being led by Rishabh Pant.

Meanwhile, India went to South Africa for a three-match Test and ODI series. Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s Test captain after winning the first Test in Centurion. KL Rahul who led India in the next two Tests lost both of them and the series 2-1 in the process. Then under the captaincy of KL Rahul India were whitewashed in the three-match ODI series by the Proteas.
