The 32-year-old South Africa National Cricket Team left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was able to bag the wicket of the 25-year-old India National Cricket Team top-order batter Ruturaj Gaikwad in the ODI series opener at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Thursday, October 6.
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his debut for the India National Cricket Team in the 50-over format in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series against the South Africa National Cricket Team. Before making his debut in ODI cricket, the youngster represented Team India in 9 T20Is, where he scored 135 runs at a strike rate of 123.85.
Meanwhile, on his ODI debut, Gaikwad batted poorly and got out on the 4th ball of the 17th over, which was bowled by Shamsi. The 25-year-old, who came out to bat after the dismissal of Shubman Gill early on in the innings, scored poor 19 runs off 42 balls.
On the 4th ball of the 17th over, Gaikwad, who clearly looked under pressure after failing to score runs at a good strike rate, ran out of patience and skipped down the track early in order to smash a boundary.
The Proteas left-arm wrist spinner tossed the ball up to go full on the middle. Ruturaj Gaikwad looked to loft inside-out over the off-side but was beaten by the dip and the turn. The ball dipped on him and spun past his swinging blade and the wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock, who was blinded by Gaikwad, managed to grab the ball properly and he whipped the bails off.
South Africa Post 249/4 On The Board vs India
Losing the toss and batting first, South Africa National Cricket Team posted 249/4 on the board with the help of amazing batting performances by David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock.
David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen displayed a batting masterclass and they looked in good touch against Indian bowlers. They had an unbeaten 138-run partnership in 103 balls. Heinrich Klaasen smashed 74 runs off 64 balls and David Miller scored 75 runs off 63 balls. Talking about De Kock, he scored 48 runs off 54 balls before getting dismissed by debutant Ravi Bishnoi.
