Star South Africa National Cricket Team fast bowler Kagiso Rabada bowled a terrific inswinger to pick up the wicket of the young India National Cricket Team opening batsman Shubman Gill in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Thursday, October 6.

The 23-year-old, who has already smashed one century and three half-centuries in his short ODI career, got the opportunity to open the innings with veteran left-handed opener Shikhar Dhawan in the ODI series opener against the Proteas.

Gill, however, failed to provide India with a good start in the match as he got cleaned up by right-arm quick Rabada on the 4th ball of the 3rd over of the innings.

The 27-year-old Rabada bowled a full-length inswinger just outside off to Gill. The Indian batter was loose on the drive and he only managed to inside-edge the ball back onto the stumps.

Gill was able to score only 3 runs off 7 deliveries and India were reduced to 8/1. However, Gill’s 3-run knock in the match helped him complete 500 runs in ODI cricket.

India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Batter Ruturaj Gaikwad and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi made their ODI debuts for India. Notably, the duo had already played for the India National Cricket Team in T20Is before making their debuts in the 50-over format.

On the other hand, Heinrich Klaasen, Janneman Malan and Tabraiz Shamsi were back in South Africa playing XI for the ODI game against India. Earlier, there was a delay in the commencement of the play due to the rain in the city and it became a 40 overs per-side contest.
