IND vs SL: Chief Selector Chetan Sharma Reveals Why Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ishant Sharma And Wriddhiman Saha Are Not Included In India's Squad For Sri Lanka Tests

Chairman of India’s selection committee Chetan Sharma has revealed the real reason behind dropping senior players, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha and Ishant Sharma from the Indian Test team for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the three-match T20 International and two-match Test series against Sri Lanka on Saturday, February 19.

The T20I series will be played on February 24, 26 and 27. Also, the first Test will be played from March 4 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh and the second Test will be played from March 12 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Speaking to the press following the squad announcement, the Chairman of India’s selection committee said that the senior players, who have been dropped, can still make a comeback to the Indian team.
He added that the selectors have requested Rahane, Pujara, Saha, and Ishant to play Ranji Trophy. Chetan Sharma also told that the selection committee wants to give opportunities to the new players in the Test team.
“We have deliberated a lot on them. We decided not to consider them for the SL series. We asked them to play Ranji. For these two matches, we decided to give chance to others. They can still make a comeback. Ajinkya got a hundred in the Ranji match. It is a bad phase. It is very important for the selectors to manage them,” Sharma said.
“We have informed them that Ishant and Wriddhi will not be considered for the two-match Test series against SL. But the door is not closed to them. We have requested all four to play the Ranji Trophy.”
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane performed brilliantly in the Ranji Trophy 2022 game against Saurashtra. He smashed an incredible century, playing for Mumbai, on Thursday, February 17 at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘A’, Motera.

Rohit Sharma (capt), Mayank Agarwal, Priyank Panchal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), R Ashwin (subject to fitness), Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah (vice-captain), Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Saurabh Kumar.
