Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik lavished praise on the “special player” Jasprit Bumrah and said that he is on the “road to greatness”.

Premier Indian pacer Bumrah bagged his first five-wicket haul at home in the pink-ball Test match against Sri Lanka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Bumrah’s remarkable spell that came in spin-friendly bowling conditions helped the Indian team to bowl out Sri Lanka in their first innings at the score of just 109 runs. Overall, he bowled just 10 overs, including 4 maidens, and picked up 5 wickets while giving away runs at an economy of 2.40.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik said that Bumrah’s awkward action, his point of release and his ability to swing the ball makes him a special bowler.

“I think he’s a special player. There is no doubt that Jasprit Bumrah is on the road to greatness. Eight fifers put him on the elite list comprising Kapil Dev. What makes him special? Obviously his awkward action, his point of release and his ability to swing the ball both ways. You’re playing on a turning wicket when the opponent fast bowlers aren’t able to even get the ball to reach the wicketkeeper. Here comes a fast bowler who gets a fifer in his 10 overs,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

The 28-year-old pacer has bagged two five-wicket hauls in England, two in South Africa, two in West Indies, one in Australia and one in India.

Karthik added that Bumrah is a top-quality pacer in any condition around the world and mentioned that former captain Virat Kohli used to turn around to Bumrah whenever he was searching for wickets.

“It really shows his skills. He’s done well in West Indies. He was unplayable in South Africa. The question never arises if he’s a good bowler in all conditions. He’s a top-quality bowler. If you notice Virat Kohli’s captaincy, he would turn around to Bumrah, who was ready to have a go,” he further added.
