Indian captain Rohit Sharma was delighted to see his team do brilliantly in the 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka. He led the team to an innings and 222 run-victory in Mohali before securing a 238-run victory in the Day-night Test in Bengaluru on Monday.

The credit certainly goes to the team, as elaborated on by Rohit. It was Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliant all-round performance and Rishabh Pant’s pyrotechnics that won them the first Test before Shreyas Iyer’s aggressive knocks coupled with Jasprit Bumrah and co’s bowling skills that handed them the win in the pink-ball Test.

It’s been a good run, and I have enjoyed it personally and as a team. We wanted to achieve a few things as a team, and we have done that. We have seen Jadeja grow as a batter, and he seems to get better and better. He strengthens the team, and he’s also improving as a bowler. And he’s a gun fielder, so he is a complete package.

Shreyas just carried on from where he left off in the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He seemed to carry that form into the Test series. He knew he was stepping into the big shoes of guys like Rahane and Pujara, but he has everything that he requires. He will be better now when he starts traveling,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Another positive note that Rohit brought up was the way in which wicket-keeper batter, Pant, played in both the matches. In the first game, he hit a counter-attacking 96 when India was in trouble before once again playing quickfire knocks of 39 and 50 in the second Test.

Rishabh seems to get better with each game that he plays. Especially in these conditions. We saw it in the England series (last year) and now. A couple of catches and stumpings showed how confident he is,” he said.

Talking about Ashwin, who became the eighth-highest wicket-taker in the history of Tests during the second match, Rohit still stuck to his opinion that Ashwin is an all-time great.

(On Ashwin) It was personally my feeling (that he is an all-time great). Whenever we give him the ball, he comes up with match-winning performances. He’s got a lot of years left in him. We have lots of occasions to look forward to. I have to ensure he’s in good mind space,” he further added.

With the win, India has ensured they end their home summer without a loss and will now head into the IPL 2022 season.
