Aakash Chopra praised Virat Kohli for making use of his opportunities to score a hundred in the first One-Day International between India and Sri Lanka on Tuesday, January 10 in Guwahati.

After being assigned to bat first, Kohli hammered 113 runs off 87 balls to help the Men in Blue set a lofty 374-run target for the Lankan Lions. Then, to win by 67 runs and take a 1-0 series lead, their bowlers held Dasun Shanaka and company to 306/8.

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra elaborated on the fact that Kohli made Sri Lanka pay for the opportunities they granted him:

“If you are a Sri Lankan, say it louder with me that you won’t drop Virat Kohli’s catch because if you drop his catch, he will not leave you. They dropped two catches of Virat Kohli and then he struck another century”

In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra argues that the hosts could have produced a higher total if they had utilized the final few overs more effectively, noting:

“In the last two games in a row, he has two centuries. He made a goal in the dead rubber, and now he has done it in the opening game. India got 373 runs, but for the first time it appeared as though 425 runs could have been achieved because the Indian batsmen hit so hard.”

“He is going at a different level in ODI centuries”: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra emphasized that the modern batting legend had gained a new milestone, saying:

“He does not leave you after that. He gets another century for Virat Kohli. In ODI centuries, he is performing at a different level. He has equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s home record of 20 hundred and has 45 ODI centuries.”

Kohli reached the century mark in just 80 deliveries, completing his second consecutive ODI century after a ton against Bangladesh in December 2022, which helped him end a three-year century drought in the format.
