India will take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, January 10. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that India should get used to playing without a seamer, given Jasprit Bumrah’s injury problems in recent years.
Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka after feeling a bit of stiffness in the back during the practice sessions. He was initially not included in the 16-member Indian squad but was included after the National Cricket Academy (NCA) declared him fit. However, he was withdrawn from the team a day before the first game.
Jasprit Bumrah Has Not Played Cricket Since September – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra has questioned Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion and exclusion from the ODI squad. The former opener said his absence is not good news for India in the scheme of things for the World Cup, as he already missed the last World Cup.
“I am slightly worried because he has not played cricket since September. Perhaps it’s time to get ready to live without Bumrah. He played an odd match in between where he got injured and didn’t come back. He then comes and goes back again,” Aakash Chopra said.
“His name comes in the team and then he is not there. He was a late inclusion here and was out again. It’s not a good story because it is a World Cup year and you have already missed the last World Cup,” he added.
Due to a back injury, Bumrah missed the Asia Cup last year. The 29-year-old was rushed to the Indian team for the T20I series against Australia at home, and later, he was ruled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
