Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin displayed incredible poise under pressure for an unbeaten 71-run partnership to help India effectively manage a spin turmoil at Mirpur’s Shere Bangla National Stadium and steal a three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the second Test on Christmas. This was a game that tested the mind and abilities of most players.
The two met while the squad was in dire straits at 74/7 and still 71 runs away from the mark. Iyer (29* — 46 b, 4×4) and Ashwin (42* — 62b, 4×4, 1×6) controlled the innings to enable India to elude Bangladesh for a 2-0 series victory.

I Always Love Ravichandran Ashwin’s Confidence: Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer talks to TOI about how he and Ashwin steered India to safety in Mirpur. He mentions being disappointed when Axar Patel got out but feeling better when Ashwin came in with confidence.
Iyer states having batted with Ashwin in the past, specifically mentioning a match against the Mumbai Indians in Sharjah where Ashwin helped them recover from a difficult situation. The Mumbai batter seemed to have a positive view of Ashwin’s abilities as a player and appreciates his confidence and experience.

“I was already there, but when I saw Axar getting out, I was dejected. I realized how tough things will be. I saw Ashwin walk in with confidence and he came and gave me a fist bump, and said, “We’ll do it, Machi. don’t worry. I always love Ashwin’s confidence. Whenever he comes in, he starts off with a bang.
The first ball he faces, it’s from the middle of his bat. From the other end, you derive confidence from his approach. He is so experienced and is one of the best readers of the game. We have also batted a lot together in the IPL for Delhi Capitals. There was a game against Mumbai Indians in Sharjah where we were in trouble and he came in and started off confidently.”
The outcome meant India’s chances of winning the World Test Championship are good as they have solidified their hold on second place ahead of a four-match home series against Australia that will begin in February.
