The 34-year-old star India National Cricket Team batsman Virat Kohli broke his own six-hitting record in the third and final ODI of the series against the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team on Sunday, January 15, at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Virat Kohli is known for his terrific ability to find gaps and smash fours against the opposition as well as his amazing ability to take quick singles and doubles. He is not someone, who is famous for his six-hitting ability in 50-over cricket.

However, in the dead rubber ODI against the Lankan Lions, he showed the world that he is capable of hitting some very huge and excellent-looking sixes.

Virat Kohli played an absolutely stupendous knock against the Dasun Shanaka-led side and smashed his 46th ODI century and overall 74th ton in international cricket.

Kohli smashed 8 sixes during his innings and broke his own six-hitting record in ODIs as his previous best was 7 sixes, which came during his 100* runs knock against Australia in 2013 in Jaipur. Kohli smashed a few 90-plus-meter sixes during his spectacular knock and also brought up his 150 with a sensational six.

Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Gautam Gambhir was highly impressed with Kohli’s six-hitting in the third ODI against Sri Lanka and he lauded the 34-year-old for the same during an interaction on Star Sports.

“The one thing that stood out for me was not Virat Kohli’s hundred, but his sixes after the century,” Gambhir said.

“The six-hitting ability of Kohli was just ‘Wow’ today,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli batted with an excellent strike rate (150.91) and smashed 166* runs off 110 balls, including 13 fours and 8 sixes.

He was involved in two 100-plus runs partnerships – with Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. The unbeaten 166 is Kohli’s second-best ODI score, only behind his 183 against Pakistan, which came in 2012. Also, Kohli is the only non-opener to have 5 150-plus scores in ODI history.
