Unquestionably one of the best batsmen of all time, Virat Kohli reached yet another landmark in his brilliant cricketing career on Sunday in Trivandrum when he passed the 62-run threshold. With his performance against Sri Lanka, Virat Kohli passed the legendary Mahela Jayawardene on the list of ODI batsmen with the most runs scored. Jayawardene drops to sixth place, with Kohli moving up to the number 5 spot.

When the game began, Kohli needed 63 runs to pass Jayawardene. The Sri Lankan legend had 12650 runs under his belt, while the Indian batting hero had 12,588.

Virat Kohli Reaches 5th Spot On List Of Most ODI Runs

Sachin Tendulkar, who has 18426 runs under his belt in the format, is at the top of the list. Currently, Kohli is behind players like Kumar Sangakkara (14234 runs), Ricky Ponting (13704 runs), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13430 runs).

Earlier on in the season, Virat Kohli reached the triple-digit mark in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, recording his 45th ODI hundred. In the third ODI of the previous series, Kohli hit 113 against the Bangla Tigers, marking his second consecutive one-day century.

In the third ODI against Sri Lanka, Kohli would like to score another hundred runs. If successful, it would mark his 21st century in the 50-over format in international cricket while playing at home. In the process, Virat will become the first player in the history of the game to register his 10th ODI century against Sri Lanka.
