As the Sri Lankan tail was hitting the ball hard and trying to find gaps in the field, India’s fielding efforts were put to the test. However, it was Hardik Pandya’s poor effort that stood out and drew the attention of others.

Watch: Poor Fielding Effort By Hardik Pandya

The incident happened when a shot off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling was hit towards Hardik Pandya at long off. Despite having plenty of time to react, Pandya was slow to move and failed to stop the ball from going for four runs.

The mistake was made even more glaring by the fact that Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, two of India’s most outstanding fielders, were also astounded as they thought the fielder could have easily made the stop.

Team India On Top After Terrific Bowling Display

Once again showcasing his talent, Kuldeep Yadav teamed up with Mohammed Siraj to knock Sri Lanka out for 215 in just 40 overs.

When it appeared that debutant Nuwanidu Fernando (50 from 63 balls) and Kusal Mendis (34 from 34 balls) had begun to frustrate Indian bowlers post-Powerplay with a quick counter-attack, Kuldeep (3/51) stepped up and took three wickets in his first five overs, causing Sri Lanka to collapse from being 102/1.

However, after choosing to bat on a flat pitch, the visitors went on to lose five wickets in the space of 43 balls and effectively lost the game as Kuldeep raced through the middle order of Sri Lanka, which included the coveted scalp of the opposing leader Dasun Shanaka (2).

However, some late explosions by Wanindu Hasaranga (21) and Dunith Wellalage (32) propelled the team above the 200-run threshold before Siraj (5.4-0-30-3) wrapped up the tail.
