Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) News

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is a franchise-based T20 tournament played in Tamil Nadu. It is played every year and is organized by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA).

Eight teams compete in the tournament. The eight teams represent eight cities of the state. The eight teams are - Chepauk Super Gillies, Dindigul Dragons, Lyca Kovai Kings, Nellai Royal Kings, Salem Spartans, Siechem Madurai Panthers, Trichy Grand Cholas and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans.

The tournament is played across five venues - M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, Salem Cricket Foundation Stadium, SNR College Cricket Ground, NPR College Ground and Indian Cement Company Ground. The tournament follows the format of a league stage followed by the playoffs and the final.

In the league stage, each team plays against the other seven teams once. At the end of the league stage, the top four teams qualify for the playoffs.

Chepauk Super Gillies are the most successful team in the tournament with four titles to their names. Apart from them, only Lyca Kovai Kings have won the tournament more than once. They have won the competition twice. The other teams to win the tournament are Tuti Patriots, Siechem Madurai Panthers and Dindigul Dragons,

The first edition of the tournament was played in 2016. Tuti Patriots beat Chepauk Super Gillies in the final to become the first-ever TNPL champions. Dindigul Dragons are the reigning champions as they beat Lyca Kovai Kings to win the 2024 edition.
