The Ashes 2021-22: Marcus Harris All Set To Open With David Warner In The Much-Awaited Series

Australia’s chairman of selectors George Bailey has said that batsman Marcus Harris will be opening the innings for Australia with veteran David Warner in the upcoming Ashes series.

The first choice opener Will Pucovski is most likely to miss the first Test match of the marquee series as he has not played since suffering a concussion in a training incident in mid-October and he is currently battling the concussion symptoms.

Also, Queensland captain Usman Khawaja who told that he is ready to bat at any batting position for the team if he gets selected for the upcoming Ashes 2021-22 series was also the front-runner.

Talking about Harris, the chairman of selectors George Bailey said that he has got limited Opportunities in past and now they will try to give him an opportunity for an extended period.

Harry’s had limited opportunities in the past and he’s been in and out a bit, so we’d love nothing more than for him hopefully to get an opportunity to get an extended run at it,” Bailey told radio RSN on Wednesday.

Bailey further lauded Marcus Harris for batting consistently well in the domestic circuit. He said:

What we have liked is his consistency. He’s obviously been a prolific run-scorer at the domestic level here, but we also love the fact he went overseas and had a great year for Leicester (Leicestershire County) as well.”

Bailey also revealed that the number five spot in the Test batting line-up is open. He said:

That number five spot is open, but we’re starting to get fairly close there,” 

Meanwhile, the marquee Ashes series is all set to commence from December 8 in Brisbane.
