The end of an era, certainly as one of South Africa’s greatest batsman Ab De Villiers has opted to retire from all forms of cricket and will not be taking part in IPL as well. The right-hander has been truly among the best batters across formats in the last decade and after his international retirement in 2019, he was willing to play just the domestic tournaments.

However, he now has looked to move on from that and the 37 years old has some excellent numbers in every format he has played. As far as the IPL is concerned, AB De Villiers is a big and popular figure for the Royal Challengers Bangalore side from the 2011 season.

This was qualifier 1 of the 2016 IPL where RCB dominated the proceedings until the finals. Gujarat Lions batted first and posted a score of 158 on the board with the top score being Dwayne Smith’s 73 off just 41 balls.

In reply, RCB lost their way completely at the start with losing 6 wickets for 68 runs in the 10th over mark and were in all sorts of trouble. However, De Villiers managed to keep them in the hunt and he stitched an excellent partnership alongside Iqbal Abdullah to take the RCB side. De Villiers finished with an unbeaten 79 off 47 balls that comprised of 5 sixes and 5 fours in the innings.

AB De Villiers showed his class in this game and proved to be a game-changer for the side at the time they needed him the most. In IPL 2014, 24th match, The Sunrisers Hyderabad batted first and went on to score 155 on the board at the loss of 6 wickets in their 20 overs mark.

In reply, RCB stuttered at 5 wickets for 95 runs at one stage, and De Villiers took over the responsibilities. He smashes an unbeaten 89 off just 41 balls, in the end, to seal the victory for the RCB side and hit eight sixes and six fours in the innings.

This was one of the most important knocks in the circumstances as AB De Villiers scored his maiden IPL century in the 2009 season. Batting first, Delhi Daredevils lost two early wickets of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, and De Villiers came in to rescue at number three.

De Villiers stiched an excellent partnership alongside Dilshan and the former went on to remain unbeaten at the end of the innings. He finished with 105 of just 54 balls with five fours and 6 sixes in his innings. Delhi Daredevils went on to win the game by 9 runs.

In the 2016 IPL, RCB had one of their IPL seasons and one of the main reasons behind their success was AB De Villiers alongside Virat Kohli. Against Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore batted first and went on to post a massive score of 248 on the board for the loss of just two wickets.

Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers both scored centuries in the game which indeed was a rare instance and the latter looked the most prolific. De Villiers finished unbeaten on 129 off just 52 balls with 12 massive sixes and 10 fours in his innings. RCB went on to win the game by a margin of 44 runs.

This was probably the best innings from AB De Villiers as he smacked sixes to all parts of the ground. In the 46th match in IPL 2015 at the Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers Bangalore put up a massive score of 235 on the board for the loss of one wicket on account of a brilliant partnership between Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers.

Ab Devilliers was the aggressor among the two in the partnership and he finished off the innings with an unbeaten 133 of just 59 balls. He hit 19 fours and 4 sixes in the innings at a strike rate of 225.42 and was unstoppable. RCB went on to win the game by 39 runs in the end.
