5. When Rohit Sharma Unfollowed Virat Kohli On Instagram

After India’s loss to New Zealand in ICC ODI World Cup 2019, Rohit Sharma unfollowed Virat Kohli on Instagram. He also unfollowed Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma on the social media platform. This news became widely popular in the media and indicated a rift between both players. This was one of the biggest instances that led fans to think about a possible rift between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

4. Ravi Shastri Urged Sharma And Kohli to Patch-Up

Former India fielding coach R Sridhar mentioned an incident involving Ravi Shastri, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli in his book ‘Coaching Beyond’. According to Sridhar, there are some rumours of Rohit camp and Virat camp inside the Indian team after ICC ODI World Cup 2019.

About 10 days after the tournament, the Indian team went to the United States to play a T20I series against West Indies. The then coach Ravi Shastri called Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma into his room. He told them that they both need to be on the same page for the benefit of Indian cricket. Shastri told them they both are the most senior players in the team and they need to work together and move forward.

3. When Virat Kohli Refused to Play Under Rohit Sharma

After ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Kohli left the T20I captaincy. He wanted to lead the team in ODIs and Tests and particularly ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, selectors wanted a common skipper in white-ball format and they asked Kohli to leave the ODI captaincy as well.

After becoming the ODI skipper, Rohit Sharma was about to lead the team for the first time in an ODI series against South Africa in January 2022. Kohli, who was totally fit at that time, was not part of the series. Although Kohli left the series due to personal reasons, some BCCI sources told the media that Kohli did not want to play under Rohit Sharma. Later due to an injury, Sharma missed the series and KL Rahul led the team.

2. Only MS Dhoni Reached Out To Me: Kohli

When India lost a three-Test series to South Africa in January last year even after a 1-0 lead after the opening game, Virat Kohli stepped down from the Test captaincy. He had already left the T20I captaincy a few months ago and was dropped as ODI skipper by BCCI as well.

Talking about the tough phase later, Kohli said that only MS Dhoni was the person who reached out to him and supported him.
