West Indies limited-overs captain Kieron Pollard has hailed India batter, Suryakumar Yadav, as a world-class player and also called for all other batters to learn from him and take a leaf out of his book after his astonishing batting gave India a 3-0 T20I series win over the visitors.
The 31-year old batter smashed 65 runs off just 31 balls in the third T20I on February 20 to assist India to win by 17 runs and complete a clean sweep against Men in Maroon. This earned him the Player of the Match award and the Player of the Series as well.
Yadav was the highest run-getter for India in the series, with 107 runs at an average of 53.50 and an amazing strike rate of 194.55. The batter will look to continue his good form against the Sri Lanka series starting from February 24.
He Is Doing Great Things For Himself And India As A 360-Degree Player: Kieron Pollard On Suryakumar Yadav
Interestingly, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard were retained by the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI), along with Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming IPL 2022 season. Both have played together for the MI franchise from IPL 2018 onwards.
“Surya is a world-class player. I had the opportunity to play at Mumbai Indians with him since he first came in in 2011. Great to see he has grown a lot since then. He is doing great things for himself and India as a 360-degree player. All batters can take a page out of his book,” Pollard said during a virtual press meet on Sunday.
After the game, Suryakumar Yadav said: “Just wanted to replicate what I did in the first game. Needed someone to stay there after Rohit got out and get the team to a defendable total.
“We had a long chat in the team meeting as to how we are going to react under immense pressure and it came out very well.
“I just try to keep things simple. Being a little harsh on yourself in the nets, don’t hit every ball wildly and have some quality sessions. Excited for the next series.”
Team India will take on Sri Lanka for three T20Is and two Test matches from February 24 onwards.
