Ishan Kishan has found the going tough in the T20I series against West Indies so far. He scored a 42-ball 35 in the first game and 2 off 10 balls in the second. Heading into the third game, the management might think about dropping him after back to back poor performances. Ruturaj Gaikwad is waiting in the wings to get an opportunity in the playing XI in the final game.

Ishan Kishan had his share of problems playing against the moving ball in the first two T20Is in Kolkata. Due to the extra swing in the conditions, he could not hit through the line and be the free-stroking player that he generally is. The same point was touched upon by former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar in the post-match interaction with Star Sports after the game.

Gavaskar explained the problems that Kishan faced in the first two games. He said that the southpaw was facing the heat and could not counter the bounce and the movement off the pitch.

“What it showed is that unless the ball is in his half, because he isn’t that tall, if the pitch has got a little extra bounce he struggles. Today there was bounce and a little bit movement as well. That is not what he is used to. We have seen him in the IPL where there are slower pitches with not much movement and then you can play through the line. He looked totally at sea today. And those aren’t good signs,” he explained.

He further said that given the conditions in Australia will be very similar to what it was in the first two games in Kolkata, the management might look to give someone else an opportunity ahead of Ishan Kishan. Kishan has opened the innings in both the games in the absence of KL Rahul who is not a part of the T20I squad due to an injury.

“These are the kind of pitches you will get in Australia. If you are looking at Mission Melbourne…because you will get these types of pitches there. Don’t know whether they will give him another try in the next match or bring in Gaikwad” said Gavaskar.

India have an unassailable 2-0 lead and would look to complete a whitewash in the T20I series too after the ODIs.
