Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has talked about the poor performance of former Indian captain Virat Kohli in the recently concluded first One Day International match between India and West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Rohit Sharma-led India registered a comfortable win in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series, by 6 wickets. Also, the convincing victory came in the 1000th One Day International match of the Indian team.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who is no longer part of the leadership group, was expected to take India to the finish line during the chase. However, it did not happen.
The 33-year-old came out to bat after Rohit Sharma’s wicket in the 14th over. His innings lasted just 4 balls and he scored 8 runs, he smashed Alzarri Joseph for two back-to-back boundaries before being dismissed in the 5th ball of the 14th over, which was a short-ball.
Kohli attempted to play a pull shot over the fine-leg fence but the connection was not very good with the ball and the top edge found the fielder in the deep.
He Should Be Prepared To Face A Little Bit More – Sunil Gavaskar Issues A Warning To Virat Kohli
Dissecting the dismissal, Gavaskar, in conversation with Star Sports, said that the Proteas team also tried to use the short-ball strategy to dismiss Kohli in the three-match ODI series. Gavaskar added that Kohli is a player who loves to play hook shots and he doesn’t like to duck, so he should be ready to face more bouncers in the upcoming games.
“I thought that even the South Africans seemed to be looking to do in one-day cricket maybe not so much in Test cricket, to try and bounce Virat Kohli. Because he is one of those batsmen who does not really duck. He loves to play the hook shot, which is one where you cannot really be in control,” Gavaskar said.
“In this instance, he does not get it right. He picked the ball which bounced a little bit more and then he anticipated so it wasn’t quite of the middle of the bat. It went off the edge and the catch was taken. So I feel he should be prepared to face a little bit more in the remaining matches,” Gavaskar added.
