IND vs WI: I Feel That KL Rahul Should Be Regularly Played At No. 5 Or 6 - Harbhajan Singh
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh insisted that KL Rahul should be played in the middle-order as he is extremely good in that position and can also stabilise the shaky Indian middle-order.
Rahul returned to the Indian side for the second ODI and immediately had an impact, scoring 49 off 48 balls before being run out. Without him, India’s middle-order feels weak and inexperienced, as per Harbhajan.
“He [Rahul] is a complete player and I have no second thoughts that Team India do not have a bigger player than him at No. 5 or No. 6 at the moment. I feel he should be regularly played at this position.”
“If KL Rahul doesn’t open and bats in the middle order, it is a great sign for Team India because he is such an experienced player, he plays spin very well. If he plays the last ten overs, there won’t be a better striker than him,” Harbhajan told on Star Sports.
“He should come in the middle order, he will score lots of runs” – Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan also asserted that Rahul batting in the middle is a blessing in disguise as this gives the opportunity to the management to test out players like Prithvi Shaw or Ishan Kishan or even the old warhorse, Shikhar Dhawan.
“I feel it is a blessing in disguise that he is not getting a chance to bat at the top of the order. Rishabh Pant or Shikhar Dhawan, once he comes back, should be part of the opening pair.”
“He [Rahul] should come in the middle order and if he bats with SKY there, I feel he will score a lot of runs. He plays excellent drives and along with that uses his feet very well, uses the crease to go back, pulls the ball if it is slightly short, has a very good cut shot, plays the ball late,” Harbhajan added.
In the second ODI, India tried Pant at the top but it didn’t work out. However, Rohit has revealed that Dhawan will be back for the third game.
