Rohit Sharma is all set to play his first ODI as the full-time captain on Sunday. He, however, won’t be opening with Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Both have tested positive for Covid-19 and are currently under isolation. Ishan Kishan and Mayank Agarwal have been added to the squad and the former is likely to be part of the playing XI.

Middle-order: Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant

Virat Kohli hasn’t scored a hundred in any format for the last two years but has been in pretty good form as far as ODI cricket is concerned. In three ODIs he played in South Africa, Virat scored two half-centuries.

The upcoming ODI series will be a perfect opportunity for him to end his century drought. In the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav should be part of the playing XI, and Rishabh Pant must don the wicket-keeping gloves.

All-rounders: Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar

Deepak Chahar’s all-round ability makes him a vital part of India’s white-ball set-up. He featured in the last ODI of the three-match series against South Africa. Chahar picked 2 wickets with the ball and also scored a half-century. He should make it into India’s playing XI for the first ODI against South Africa.

Washington Sundar has recovered from his injury and has been added to the squad as well. With Jadeja still recovering from his injury, Sundar is likely to be part of the playing XI for the first ODI.

Bowlers: Prasidh Krishna, Mohammad Siraj, Yuvzendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav

In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj should lead the pace-attack. As for the third seamer, Prasidh Krishna should make the cut. For those of you who don’t know, Kuldeep Yadav has been added to India’s squad for the ODI series.

His inclusion came after India couldn’t pick wickets in the middle-overs in the ODI series in South Africa. One shouldn’t get surprised if India opts to go with both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal for the first ODI against West Indies on Sunday.
