Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim is surprised after BCCI announced the ODI and T20I squads for India’s home series against West Indies. The sides will play three ODIs and three T20Is between February 6-20. The 18-man squad features Rohit Sharma, who is set to return to the side following his injury that ruled him out of the New Zealand Tests and South Africa tour.

Among the other interesting inclusions were Kuldeep Yadav who was recalled into the ODI squad. Deepak Hooda and Ravi Bishnoi earned maiden ODI call ups. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was added to the T20I squad but ignored for the ODIs after recently playing the ODI series against South Africa. Saba Karim has termed the changes absurd on his podcast interaction with Khelneeti.

Karim stressed specifically on the selection of Ruturaj Gaikwad who was selected in the ODI squad but discarded for the T20Is. He was in India’s ODI squad for the South Africa series but was not given a game. Moreover, he has made a name for himself playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL in T20 cricket. This is where Karim’s surprise at Indian squads makes sense.

“Ruturaj is not part of the T20 team but has been included in ODIs. He was chosen for international cricket on the basis of his T20 performances. So a couple of changes are really absurd,” said Karim.

He further said that he is hoping the selectors get the ideal team combination before the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year.

“Hopefully, we get a settled combination soon because there is not much time left (for the World Cup),” he added.
