IND vs WI: You Came Out Of A Tough Phase, You Kept Fighting: Irfan Pathan To Deepak Hooda

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan congratulated all-rounder Deepak Hooda for receiving his maiden call to play for the Indian team.

On Wednesday, the BCCI announced squads for India’s upcoming ODI series against West Indies.

Hooda has played 74 List A matches and aggregated 2257 runs at an average of 38.25 and strike rate of 93.80 since 2014.

Hooda moved to the Rajasthan cricket team ahead of the 2021-22 domestic season after severing ties with the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA).

The 26-year-old all-rounder was banned by the BCA for the 2020-21 season after he walked out of a training session because of a spat with Baroda captain Krunal Pandya.

Hooda scored a run-a-ball 109 against Karnataka in his final match for Rajasthan in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22.

Rajasthan’s young player Ravi Bishnoi has also received his maiden call-up for  India’s squad in the West Indies series.

Irfan Pathan, who has also played for the Baroda state team, acknowledged the fighting spirit of Hooda and asked him to make the best opportunity out of it. Irfan also congratulated to Ravi Bishnoi and Avesh Khan.

Rohit Sharma to lead India against West Indies after recovering back from injury

Rohit Sharma, who missed the South Africa tour owing to a hamstring injury, returned to the side as the captain. Virat Kohli will continue to play as a pure batter after relinquishing Test captaincy.

India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for both ODI and T20I series in order to manage his workload.

India’s new spin pair of Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal didn’t find enough success on South Africa pitches. Reports have suggested that Ashwin wasn’t available for selection as he will be undergoing treatment.

Chahal has retained his position in both the squads while his long-time spin partner Kuldeep Yadav will join him in the ODI series.

Axar Patel will play in the T20I series and Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar will play in both formats for India against the Windies.
