According to Aakash Chopra, the 2017 Asia Cup will offer a solution to Team India’s opening batting dilemma.

From August 27 to September 11, 2022, the UAE will host the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue were placed in the same group as Pakistan and a qualifier for the tournament’s group stage.

T20 World Cup Team Won’t Be Much Different From The One Selected For Asia Cup: Aakash Chopra

The major issue facing Team India was underlined by Chopra as he previews the competition in a video posted to his YouTube account. He elaborates:

“Who will be the openers, that’s the million-dollar question. KL Rahul will of course become available now. So is KL Rahul going to open or will Suryakumar open or will Ishan Kishan get a chance? Can Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also open?”

Aakash Chopra believes that it is more or less likely that the team chosen for the Asia Cup will go to Australia for the T20 World Cup later in the year. Former cricketer who is now a commentator said:

“You will get the answer to the biggest question in this tournament because all of us believe that the team that will play now will be the one that will be almost ready for the World Cup, subject to fitness.

If there is any injury, there could be change, else the 15 who will be selected here are also going to Australia for the World Cup.”

In last year’s home series against England’s last T20I, Virat Kohli last started in the centre for Team India. Making the ultimate decision would undoubtedly be difficult for the team management and selectors given the abundance of opening batter choices available to them.

Aakash Chopra Questions What Will Happen To The Spinners

Team India has several options when it comes to spin bowling, as Aakash Chopra said. He clarified:

“One more question in my mind is – What will happen to the spinners? Yuzi Chahal is the No. 1 spinner and Ravindra Jadeja is the No. 2 spinner.

You might need a third spinner in these conditions, so will it be Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravi Bishnoi, or if there is a dark horse in Washington Sundar?”

Where Is Mohammed Shami?: Aakash Chopra

In his final statement, Aakash Chopra questioned Mohammad Shami’s place as one of India’s pacers in T20 international cricket. The formerly battered former Indian said:

“Who will be the fast bowlers because Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah are certain. Is Harshal Patel almost confirmed as the third or will Mohammad Shami come?

Where is Mohammad Shami? Shami’s performance was very good in the IPL. You are not playing him the T20s now but is that the call on his future?”

Just 17 T20Is, including the five games he featured in during the T20 World Cup last year, have been played by Shami for India to far. It appears the Indian selectors are searching beyond the seasoned bowler for the shortest format of the game given that he hasn’t played for the Men in Blue since that event.
