Asia Cup 2022: India Squad The Tournament

The Indian team is gearing up for the upcoming campaign which is Asia Cup 2022. India is the defending champions of the tournament as they won the previous edition of the Asia Cup in 2018. India has already announced the squad for the tournament and will aim to grab the title for a consecutive time.

India will play their opening game of the Asia Cup 2022 against Pakistan. The clash will take place on October 28 at Dubai International Stadium in UAE. India is part of Group A in the tournament. Pakistan is also part of the same group while one more team will join the group after the qualifier round. Below we take a glance at India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022.

Batsmen

Rohit Sharma is the skipper of India in Asia Cup 2022. The right-handed batsman will also be one of the openers for the team. The right-handed batter has shown a decent form in T20Is this year, smashing 290 runs in 13 games at an average of 24.16 and strike rate of 140+. He has also hit 1 fifty.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul is another batsman for India in the squad for Asia Cup 2022. He will be the top choice for an opener. The right-handed batsman is also the vice-captain of the team in the tournament. Rahul has not played a T20I match this year but has shown superb form in ODIs and Tests. He will accompany skipper Rohit Sharma in the opening slot.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is another batsman who has got a place in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. Although Kohli is a star batter for India, his poor form this year is a cause of worry for many. This year, the right-handed batter has played 4 T20I games and scored just 81 runs at an average of 20.25. He has also struggled to score runs in ODIs and Tests.

Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is another batsman in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. The right-handed batsman showed good form in the last T20I series against West Indies and England. Yadav has played 23 T20I games so far and smacked 672 runs at an average of 37.33. He has also hit 5 half-centuries and 1 century in the shortest format.

Wicketkeepers

Rishabh Pant is one of the wicketkeepers for the team and will be the primary choice of keeper during the tournament. The left-handed batsman has played 13 T20I matches this year and slammed 260 runs at an average of 26.0 and strike rate of 135+. Pant has also hit 1 unbeaten half-century.

Dinesh Karthik is another wicketkeeper that India has picked for Asia Cup 2022. However, unlike Pant who plays in the middle, Karthik is a lower-order batsman. He played some key knocks this year which helped him to get a place in the squad for the tournament. The right-handed batsman has hit 192 runs in 15 T20I this year at an average of 21.33 and strike rate of 133+. He also hit 1 fifty.

Hardik Pandya is one of the all-rounders that India has picked for Asia Cup 2022. Pandya showed outstanding form with both bat and ball after his comeback to the team this year. The right-handed batsman played 13 T20Is this year and scored 281 runs at an average of 31.22 and strike rate of 139+. He also picked 8 wickets.

Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda is another all-rounder in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. Hooda, who made his international debut this year, played some impressive knocks to get a chance in the tournament. The right-handed batsman has played 9 T20I games so far and mustered 274 runs at an average of 54.80 and strike rate of 161+. Hooda also hit a century against Ireland in a T20I game.

Ravindra Jadeja is another all-rounder that India has in their squad. He will be a key spinner and a lower-order batsman for the team. The left-handed batter has played 7 T20Is this year and scored 113 runs at an average of 55.33. He owns an amazing strike rate of 146+. With the ball, the left-arm spinner has scalped 4 wickets in the shortest format this year.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is another all-rounder who is part of India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. Ashwin was picked as selectors wanted to induct more spinners into the squad. Interestingly, Ashwin played only 3 T20I games this year in which he picked 3 wickets. Many experts also criticized Ashwin’s selection in the squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the spinners that India has picked for Asia Cup 2022. The right-arm spinner showed a magnificent for in ODIs and T20Is this year. The right-arm spinner has picked 12 T20Is this year and scalped 15 wickets at an average of 18.13.

Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi is another spinner in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. The right-arm spinner has picked 15 wickets in 9 games since his T20I debut this year. Bishnoi holds an average of 16.53 and an economy of 7.15. Bishnoi has given consistent performance for the team in every series he played.

Pacers

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one of the pacers for the team in Asia Cup 2022. In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. The right-arm pacer showed fantastic form this year in the shortest format. Kumar has played 17 T20I games this year and picked 20 wickets at an average of 17.80.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh is another pacer that India has picked in the squad for Asia Cup 2022. The left-arm pacer has managed to impress selectors in his short T20I career so far. In 6 T20I games, the left-arm pacer has picked 9 wickets at an average of 14.55. He has also bowled at a good economy of just 6.33.

Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan is another pacer who is part of Asia Cup 2022. In the absence of pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, and Deepak Chahar, selectors found Avesh Khan as the top choice in the pace department. Khan made his international debut this year and has played 13 T20Is so far. The right-arm pacer has picked 11 wickets at an average of 31.81 and an economy of 8.67.
