Former India skipper Virat Kohli broke the jinx and finally registered his 71st international century in the dead-rubber fixture against Afghanistan. In the process, he also achieved his maiden ton in the shortest format of the game.

In the penultimate Super 4 clash, the Men in Blue produced their best show in Asia Cup 2022 riding on Virat Kohli’s brutal unbeaten century – his first international hundred after 1020 days. Virat’s last ton came in a Test match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in November 2019.

Opening the innings as skipper Rohit Sharma took a break, Kohli smashed 122 not out off just 61 balls for a strike rate of 200, hitting 12 fours and 6 sixes. It was his maiden hundred in T2oIs, and 71st in international cricket. He has 27 tons in Tests and 43 in ODIs.

The former India captain dedicated his special knock to wife Anushka Sharma and daughter Vamika.

Kohli said after propelling India to a 200+ total, “I am standing here because of one person – my wife Anushka (Sharma)… she has stood by me all this while… this one is for Anushka and our daughter Vamika,”

I wasn’t desperate when I came back. I was grateful for what god has given me in the past. The break was a blessing, I wanted to be the best version of me for my team. When I came back and batted in the nets, I could feel the old touch was coming.”
