Former keeper Parthiv Patel believes Virat Kohli looked excellent with the bat during India’s Asia Cup 2022 match against Pakistan on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium (August 28).
Parthiv Patel noted how the right-handed hitter looked to rotate the strike after hitting a boundary during a discussion on Cricbuzz. As per Parthiv, the seasoned campaigner seemed to be recovering confidence.
“Virat Kohli started playing, and he looked outstanding. He did have a chance at first, but when you are out of shape and have no runs behind you, you can get away with it. On a bad day, someone might use a smear campaign to discredit you.”
“He seemed to have a nice rhythm. By turning the shot nicely after striking a boundary, he displayed traits reminiscent of his earlier years.”
KL Rahul was dismissed for a golden duck in the opening over, giving India’s run chase a rocky start. Kohli helped the Men in Blue maintain their momentum with a 35-run innings off of 34 deliveries.
Kohli did a fine job for the side: Parthiv Patel
Parthiv Patel continued by saying that since Kohli was rejoining the team after a break, it was essential for him to spend time at the crease. He emphasized that the player accomplished that and did so under trying circumstances.
Parthiv Patel emphasized that Kohli performed a good job for the team by enduring a trying time when the Pakistani bowlers were operating at peak efficiency. Parthiv explained:
“The fact that Virat Kohli was allowed to spend time at the crease is the biggest benefit in my opinion. Sometimes it is not just about running, but also about pausing, even if it is uncomfortable, in the middle.”
The Rohit Sharma-led side chased down Pakistan’s score of 147 with two deliveries to spare to get the continental championship off to a good start.
