World Cup-winning captain and legendary India National Cricket Team all-rounder, Kapil Dev, has given an important piece of advice to the modern-day batting great Virat Kohli ahead of the high-voltage Asia Cup 2022 encounter between India National Cricket Team and Pakistan National Cricket Team.

The 33-year-old Kohli, who is going through a lean patch, is all set to return to action in the Asia Cup after a break of over a month. After the IPL 2022, Kohli participated only in one assignment for India, the tour of England, which ended on a forgettable note. After the England series, he was rested for the entire limited-overs series against West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Kapil has said that Kohli should participate in as many games as possible without taking breaks ahead of the World Cup as it might help him to return to form quickly.

“I don’t think so. We shouldn’t even think about it,” Kapil responded to a reporter’s query about whether the Asia Cup 2022 is Kohli’s last audition’ before the T20 World Cup on Uncut.

“If we use terms like last audition, or last chance, I don’t think that is right. I just want to say to him that he should keep on playing matches. Sometimes, you shouldn’t be taking too many breaks. He is a professional and he should not have that problem. I personally feel he should play as many matches and as many matches he can play. That’s more important. When you start scoring runs, then the thought process changes.”

Who is a bigger name does not matter. What matters is who gives the bigger performance – Kapil Dev

The 63-year-old further said that the impact players are being given more opportunities in today’s era, which was not the case during his era.

“He should be. Today it doesn’t make a difference who’s in the team and who isn’t. In our time, it used to happen that if a big player is in the team, he has to play. You can’t make him sit out. In the T20s, a lot has changed.

“Even if a big player sits out or rests – like Kohli, Rohit or Ashwin, it’s fine. The mindset of players have changed which is very good. Who is a bigger name does not matter. What matters is who gives the bigger performance,” he said.

In the second match of the Asia Cup, Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team will take on Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 28.
