Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri showered praise on the star India National Cricket Team all-rounder Hardik Pandya after his heroics in the Asia Cup 2022 blockbuster battle against the arch-rivals Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 28.

The 28-year-old performed exceptionally well in the Asia Cup game against the Men In Green and he made his presence felt in both innings of the match. Pandya won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance as he bagged 3 wickets for 25 runs and smashed 33 runs off 17 balls.

After the match, former India National Cricket Team head coach Shastri hailed Pandya as the best T20 all-rounder in the business.

Notably, India’s premier all-rounder Pandya smashed a wonderful six off Mohammad Nawaz’s delivery in the final over of the match to help India complete the 148-run chase and win the match by 5 wickets.

Earlier, Shastri said that Hardik Pandya is one of the most important members of the current Indian setup as he brings a much-needed balance with him. The 60-year-old also said that Team India missed Pandya’s bowling in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.

“He (Pandya) is one of the most important cogs in the wheel as far as India is concerned,” Shastri said in a press conference organised by Star Sports.

“You take him out of the squad and the balance goes away. That’s how important he is. You don’t know whether to play an extra batsman or an extra bowler.”

“We missed him really badly last year in the (T20) World Cup when he couldn’t bowl. It makes a massive difference. There is no one close to him when it comes to the quality that he possesses at that number. I think he is an extremely important player and has to be watched very closely. With the number of matches coming up, he is the last person you want to play in all those matches,” said Shastri.
