Former Pakistan National Cricket Team skipper Shahid Afridi has said that the Pakistan team management and the selectors have not handled the star left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi properly.
The 22-year-old premier Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi will not be able to take part in the Asia Cup due to his right knee ligament injury, which he sustained while fielding during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.

Talking about the pacer getting ruled out of the multi-nation tournament, the Ex-Pakistan captain said that the pacers don’t have a long shelf life and that a supremely talented fast bowler like Shaheen cannot be expected to take part in every game. Shahid told Sports Tak:
“Pakistan have not handled Shaheen properly. You cannot play him in every game. Fast bowlers do not have a long shelf life. So, we need to have a strong bench strength. In fact, we do have a few bowlers who can be given a chance if the main players are rested for some of the matches. There cannot be so much load on fast bowlers.”
Along with Shaheen, who is expected to return to competitive cricket in October, Mohammad Wasim Jr was ruled out of Asia Cup 2022 due to a side strain. PCB has included Mohammad Hasnain and Hasan Ali in the squad as replacements.
It cannot be denied that there will be greater pressure on other bowlers in Shaheen’s absence – Shahid Afridi

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team all-rounder further said that the absence of Shaheen from the marquee tournament is a major setback for the Men In Green. He asserted:
“It cannot be denied that there will be greater pressure on other bowlers in Shaheen’s absence from the tournament. I hope the bench strength rises to the occasion. This game is not about one player, but 11 of them who take the field. With Shaheen not there, the other bowlers too will have to take responsibility.”
In the second match of the Asia Cup, Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team will take on arch-rivals India National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, August 28
Talking about Team India, they will be without the services of premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the mega event due to a back injury.
While talking about his unavailability, former India National Cricket Team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh said that the 28-year-old’s absence is a big relief for the opposition teams in the Asia Cup. He said:
“Bumrah’s absence is a relief for the opposition and a slight cause of concern for India. He can turn the fortunes of a match. (Mohammed) Shami and Harshal (Patel) are also not there, so the pace department is slightly on the weak side. But India have wicket-taking spinners in (Yuzvendra) Chahal and (Ravichandran) Ashwin.”
