The 33-year-old India National Cricket Team star batter Virat Kohli, who has been going through a lengthy lean patch, is all set to return to action in the Asia Cup 2022, which is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11 in UAE, after a break of over a month.

After the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Kohli participated only in one assignment for India, the tour of England, which ended on a forgettable note. Across 6 innings he registered the highest score of 20. After the England series, Kohli was rested for the entire limited-overs series against West Indies and Zimbabwe.

In an interview with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the Asia Cup, Virat Kohli spoke about his introspection, realisation and his way forward.

“I am a person who wakes up and feels like, ‘okay let’s see what the day has for me’. And be part of everything that I am doing through the day with absolute presence, involvement and happiness and that’s who I have always been,” former India National Cricket Team captain said in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday, August 27.

Former Team India captain Kohli said that people always ask him how he carries so much intensity on the field and he simply replies by saying that he absolutely loves the game of cricket and has a lot to contribute. He said:

“People ask me a lot how do you do this on the field and how do you carry on so much intensity. I just tell them, I love playing the game, and I love the fact that I have so much to contribute every ball and I would give every inch of my energy on the field.”

Virat Kohli further said that his goal is always to help his team win the games at any cost and if that means he is gasping for breath when walking off the field, it’s completely fine. He stated:

“For me, it never felt abnormal, a lot of people on the outside watched me, and even within the team they ask me ‘how you keep up with it’ and I just say one simple thing, I want to make my team win at any cost and if that means that I am gasping for breath when I walk off the field so be it. That’s the kind of preparation I go through to be able to play like that. Toh wo naturally nahi ho raha tha aur mujhe push karna pad raha tha (it didn’t happen naturally and I had to work for it).”

In their tournament opener, India National Cricket Team will go head-to-head with arch-rivals Pakistan National Cricket Team at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, August 28.
