Former Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri expressed his dissatisfaction over the exclusion of veteran spinner Ravichandra Ashwin from India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. Karsan Ghavri emphasized that Ravichandran Ashwin has not received fair treatment despite being a senior player.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t make it into the squad as the selectors picked Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. Yuzvendra Chahal was also dropped from the squad.

Ravichandran Ashwin Has Not Been Treated Well – Karsan Ghavri

Speaking on the sidelines of the Ceat Cricket Rating Award in Mumbai on Monday, August 21, Karsan Ghavri said that Ravichandran Ashwin could be a better option, considering the ODI World Cup being played on home soil.

“What is Ashwin supposed to prove after taking 712 international wickets? He has not been treated well despite being a senior player. Ashwin is a quality player and he should have been selected for the Asia Cup. He will be a key bowler in the ODI World Cup on Indian pitches,” Ghavri said.

Ashwin last played for India in an ODI match in January 2022. The 36-year-old picked 151 wickets in 113 ODIs with an average of 33.5 and an economy rate of 4.94 in his international cricket career.

Yuzvendra Chahal Is A Match-Winning Bowler – Madan Lal

Speaking at the same event, former India all-rounder Madan Lal expressed his surprise with Ashwin and Chahal not being in India’s squad, saying that they could perform well on the big stage.

“I was a little surprised about Yuzvendra Chahal, Ashwin is not there either. Australia have played Kuldeep Yadav very well. Yuzvendra Chahal should have got a chance. He is a match-winning bowler,” Lal said.

“Ashwin is someone who has taken 500-600 wickets… he knows how to take wickets. We did not play him in the WTC final, the team management knows better,” he added.

India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (vc), Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Sanju Samson (travelling reserve).
