The third and final T20I between India and Australia will be played in Hyderabad on Sunday, September 25. The series is level at 1-1 after India won the rain-curtailed second T20I by six wickets. The series so far has been very evenly fought by both teams and we are in for an exciting finish. India host South Africa for three T20Is and three ODIs after the Australia series is done and dusted.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 46 off 20 balls to anchor the chase for India. Dinesh Karthik scored 10 off 2 with nine needed from the final over to level the series. The crowd in Nagpur got their money’s worth as they saw a closely fought contest.

Despite the batters managing to take India home, the concern in the death overs remains. Harshal Patel gave 19 runs in the final over of the Australian innings to help them score 90. The last three overs cost India 44 runs as Australia took the score from 59/4 in the sixth over to 90/5 in the eighth over.

Harshal went for 32 off his two overs while Bumrah on his comeback went for 23. India now has just four games to sort out their playing combination and address their death overs woes ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Batting-wise, Rohit Sharma stepped up and Karthik once again proved his finishing potential. Virat Kohli’s problems against spin were evident. The batters were guilty of playing across the line to deliveries that were wicket to wicket.

Australia skipper Aaron Finch pointed out the positives despite the defeat in a rain-truncated game. He lauded Matthew Wade and Adam Zampa for their performance and also lauded opposition skipper Rohit Sharma for playing the way he did. The Aussies are still well placed to win the series on Sunday in Hyderabad.

“You probably plan for a 5 over the game and then a bit more to it. Rohit played brilliantly and two overs of Axar made the difference. Wade is a calm customer at the back end and he has grown into that finisher’s role. Zampa was good too” said Finch who himself played a good cameo scoring 31 off 15 balls.
