The 37-year-old India National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has stated that he has serious doubts over whether Mohammed Shami might return to the Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 between India and Australia will commence on February 9 in Nagpur and the remaining three matches will be played in Delhi, Dharamsala and Ahmedabad.

India were without the services of premier pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah in the recently concluded 2-0 Test series win against Bangladesh. Shami got ruled out of the series due to a shoulder injury and Bumrah was recovering from his back injury.

Meanwhile, Karthik has said that Shami is not as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training and he has been “injury-struck” for a while.

“For Shami, it’s a big question, because he is somebody who is probably not as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training. He has had an injury and he’s been injury-struck for some time,” said Karthik on Cricbuzz.

Karthik also talked about the Indian players frequently getting injured in recent times and said that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the team management will have to work together and find a way to make sure that the players remain fit.

“The whole Indian backups have been injured over a period of time for some strange reason. The Indian team and NCA need to align themselves towards how they are going to plan in making sure the players stay fit over a period of time,” he said.
