IND vs AUS: "I Hope He Plays In The Next Two Test Matches" - Rohit Sharma On Jasprit Bumrah

Rohit Sharma has advised India not to rush Jasprit Bumrah back into action and thinks the fast bowler would be fit to play in the final two Tests against Australia in March.

Jasprit Bumrah hasn’t represented India since September of last year.

Bumrah was on his way back to the ODI squad for the home series against Sri Lanka earlier this month after recovering from the back ailment he sustained during the 2022 T20 World Cup when he got a new glute injury and was forced to leave the team.

In the months leading up to the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October-November of this year, the Indian team management is particularly concerned about Bumrah’s condition. Due to a stress response in his back, Bumrah has been out of action since September of last year.

He was receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) of the BCCI in Bengaluru. He was gradually recovering after being instructed to undergo rehabilitation for at least six weeks; on November 25, he started training again, and on December 16, he returned to bowling at the NCA.

Bumrah’s return shouldn’t be hurried, and Rohit hopes the fast bowler will play in the next two Tests against Australia.

When India beat New Zealand 3-0 in the one-day international series, Rohit stated, “About Bumrah, I’m not too sure at the moment, of course for the first two Test matches he’s not going to be available.”

“I hope he plays in the next two Test matches, but I’m not counting on it. Once again, we don’t want to take any chances with him. Injury to the back is always serious. After then, there will be a lot of cricket, so we will keep an eye on it. We communicate frequently with NCA’s medical staff, including its physio,” Rohit Sharma added.

The four-match Test series will start on February 9 and the Australians will arrive in India by mid-week. They have very little time to get ready for the first Test in Nagpur as a result.
