Ravichandran Ashwin, a seasoned cricketer for India, has expressed regret for never having the opportunity to skipper the Indian cricket team.

Cricket captaincy in India has resembled a game of musical chairs during the past year. With the exception of one seasoned cricketer, up to seven players, from KL Rahul to Hardik Pandya, have led the Indian squad.

Cricket in India has been like a game of musical chairs ever since Virat Kohli resigned. Up to seven players, including KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, have led the Indian squad as captain. Apart from Rahul and Hardik, captaincy attempts have been made by Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shikhar Dhawan. Then, of course, there is Rohit Sharma.

To some extent, the luster of leading the Indian cricket team has been diminished by the captaincy rat race. And while Hardik Pandya hasn’t been formally named as the regular T20I captain, it appears as split captaincy has finally made an appearance in Indian cricket; going forward, Rohit is probably going to concentrate more on ODIs and Tests.

“My dreams will be open”: Ravichandran Ashwin

R Ashwin, a seasoned cricketer for India, has never had the opportunity to lead the Indian cricket team amongst all of this. Despite being used for more than ten years, Ashwin has not frequently been paired with the term “captain.”

Although Ravichandran Ashwin led Punjab Kings in the IPL as captain in 2018, his name has been largely omitted from Team India’s captaincy. Perhaps it’s because he doesn’t always start for India when they travel abroad… however, the headline “Ashwin as India’s Test captain” is unmistakably familiar.

Even though he says he is open to the chance, Ashwin claims that he isn’t worried about not having led India as captain. “Once I hang up my boots, I think I’ll have an answer for that. But until then my dreams will be open, and I’ll be looking forward to opportunities, “ Ravichandran Ashwin told The New Indian Express in an interview.

Ashwin will compete against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, which begins in February.
