Ravindra Jadeja ended with a total of 10 wickets and played a crucial role in helping India win the second Test match in Delhi. The left-arm spinner took career-best figures of 7/42 as Australia were bowled out for just 113 in the second innings. Jadeja’s spinning partner Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 for 53.

Ravindra Jadeja has now taken 17 wickets in the series and has scored 96 runs with the bat as well. He made a comeback to international cricket after five months and has straightway looked the part. He bowled wicket to wicket to get the Aussie batters dismissed were committed to playing the sweep shots.

Having started the day on 61/1 on day 3, Australia were bundled out for 113 with Ashwin and Jadeja sharing the wickets between themselves. Australis lost their last seven wickets for just 28 runs and added just 51 runs before being bowled out.

After the game, Axar Patel in a funny conversation with Ravindra Jadeja spoke about how his fellow left-arm spinner’s wicket-taking spree is denying the skipper from giving him the ball.

“Sir, meri to bowling aa nahi rahi hai. Axar ko bowling nahi dena hai isliye aisa ball dal rahe ho kya? (Sir, are you bowling like this so that Axar doesn’t get a chance to bowl?),” Axar asked Jadeja in a video shared by bcci.tv.

My Effort Was To Bowl Stump To Stump: Ravindra Jadeja

The question left both of them in splits but the on a serious note, Jadeja explained that the role of a spinner increases when the team is playing on this kind of track. He spoke about his bowling plan seeing the Australian batters sweeping every delivery.

“They [the Australians] prefer playing the sweep and reverse sweep. My effort was to bowl stump to stump. If they miss and the ball stays low, then the ball is bound to hit the stumps. That’s what happened today when five balls hit the stumps,” Jadeja replied.

As many as five Australian batters fell to the sweep shot in the second innings including Steve Smith and Alex Carey. Carey is considered as one of the better exponents at playing the sweep and the reverse sweep.

The third Test is moved out of Dharamsala and will be played in Indore from March 1 to 5 and the fourth Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad from March 9 to 13.
