Rohit Sharma‘s decision to drop Shardul Thakur & include Axar Patel raised a lot of eyeballs as Shardul has a knack for breaking partnerships.

The Men in Blue had a forgettable start to their innings as Mitchell Starc was bowling thunderbolts. Starc took 4 scalps in his first 5 overs where Indian batters were quite clueless against his pace & variations. Skipper Steve Smith’s field placings were spot on and it looked as if the Aussies were on a mission.

Watch: Sean Abbott takes Massive Wicket of Hardik Pandya

At the end of 9 overs, India’s score was 49-4 where Virat Kohli’s score was 22 runs in 23 balls & Hardik Pandya’s score was 1 run in 1 ball. Sean Abbott was bowling the 10th over and on the 2nd delivery, Abbott bowled a shorter of length where Pandya got a thick edge towards the 2nd slip where Smith in the 1st slip took a stunner to dismiss Hardik Pandya. Hardik Pandya was dismissed on 1 run in 3 balls. Skipper Rohit Sharma was astounded by seeing Smith take a terrific catch. India now have lost half of their side for 49 runs in 9.2 overs.

India in deep trouble

All eyes would be on the star batter Virat Kohli who will have to make sure that he bats till the end of the innings. India would be aiming to get the score past 200 runs which would give them some sort of chance. It would be interesting to see whether Ravindra Jadeja can play another significant knock.

The pitch has been a bit sluggish but Aussie pacers have bowled impeccable lines & lengths where they haven’t given ample room to the batters. It looks unlikely that Smith would introduce spin from one end. Nathan Ellis could be targeted by Indian batters as the bowler doesn’t have much experience in the ODI format.
