Meanwhile, Smith said that he worked hard to get himself in a good position to score big runs but got greedy, which led to him getting dismissed.

“I got a bit greedy with the field they had set. I had worked pretty hard and got myself in a nice position to go on and get a big score,” he said.

Smith opined that there would have been a small chance of a result on Day 5 if the weather didn’t play spoilsport and they were five down.

Perhaps if we were five down we might have been able to push a little harder in the morning and potentially set something up for the fourth innings,” he added.

Smith was dismissed by Nauman Ali in the first Test in the 125th over and he was able to score 78 runs off 196 balls including 8 fours.

Pakistan spinner Nauman Ali has been the best bowler for the side, so far, having bagged 4 wickets in 37 overs. He dismissed the likes of Usman Khawaja (97), Smith (78), Travis Head (8) and Cameron Green (48).

After the end of the play on Day 4, Ali said that they will be looking forward to dismissing Australian batters early on the final day. He elaborated:

“I just tried to stick to my plans which were given to me by my captain and our coaches. I just wanted to use the rough patches, and that helped. The pitch was slow and there were few patches in the middle of the pitch but there were good patches on the sides. We’ll look to get them out early tomorrow and we would follow whatever the team management decides for tomorrow.”
