Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja lauded the determined efforts of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to save the second Test against Australia in Karachi. Babar defied the Australian bowling attack to salvage a draw after the hosts were bowled out for 148 in the first innings.

Babar missed his double-hundred but the Pakistan captain batted with determination and grit for 10 hours and seven minutes to score 196 off 425 balls to keep the visitors at bay.

After Babar’s dismissal at the end of the day, wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan deployed his defensive technique, he stood firm at one end of the crease and remained unbeaten on 104. Pakistan put up 447/6, their sixth-highest fourth innings total of all time.

Ramiz said the second Test match tested the character and will of the Pakistan players and hailed them for their fightback. The PCB chairman also mentioned that Babar played the best innings of his life.

“We got to see an epic Test match. Some matches test your character, your will. We saw today that Pakistan, for two days, fought and saved the match. I don’t know what to say about Babar. He probably played the best innings of his life,” Ramiz said in a video uploaded on Pakistan Cricket Board’s official YouTube channel.

The three-match Test series is evenly poised at 0-0 and the series-decider is being played at the Gaddafi stadium in Lahore. The visitors will aim to win their first Test series in Pakistan after 24 years.

The last time Australia won a Test series in Pakistan was in 1998 when Mark Taylor and his men clinched the three-match Test series 1-0, it was also the Australian side’s last tour to Pakistan.

On Day 1 of the third Test, Australia were 232/5 at the end of the gameplay as Usman Khawaja continued his domination in the country of his birth. Khawaja scored 91 off 219 balls and was involved in a 138-run stand with Steve Smith, who made 59 from 169 deliveries.
