PAK vs AUS 2022: We Left That Test Match Knowing We Tried As Much As We Could On That Wicket - Pat Cummins

Australian Test team’s captain Pat Cummins was happy with his team’s outing in the first Test against Pakistan, although it ended in one of the dullest draws the cricketing fraternity has seen in the last few years.

The bowlers toiled hard as there was nothing in the surface for them. Only 14 wickets fell across three innings while over a thousand runs were put up. Right from the first day, it seemed like the batters would have their say and the surface never deteriorated, forcing the bowlers to struggle.

Overall I was pretty happy with how we stuck at it. I think one of the learnings before coming here was really managing the tempo of the game and we did that brilliantly. We didn’t get as many wickets as we would have liked but we never let the run rate slip.

We never lost control of the game. Overall we left that Test match knowing that we tried as much as we could on that wicket. I think as a Test match, it’s an absolute outlier,” Cummins said in the press conference ahead of the second Test in Karachi.

There was nothing much to take away from the first Test but Cummins believes that they had a chance to take a lead and put the hosts under pressure on Day 5.

We spoke about that (converting starts into big scores) after the game. There are some real positives from the batting to get the high-400s. Over here, if you get yourself in, you need to capitalize. We missed a chance to put a good lead ahead and have a chance to maybe bowl on Day 5 with a lead,” Cummins further mentioned.

Both teams shared four WTC points each from the draw and will now head to Karachi where the second Test starts on Saturday. It is expected to be a turner so the Aussies have already confirmed that Mitchell Swepson will be making his Test debut.
