SL vs AUS: Sri Lanka Cricket To Pay Tribute To Late Shane Warne In Galle Test

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is all set to pay tribute to the late Shane Warne in the first Test match of the two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and Australia, which will be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.

The two-match Test series between Sri Lanka and Australia, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle, will begin on 29 June at the Galle International Cricket Stadium and the second Test match will be played from July 8 to July 12 at the same venue.

Former Australia National Cricket Team player and the greatest leg-spinner of all time, Shane Warne, died of a heart attack in Thailand, at the age of just 52, in March this year. The cricketing fraternity was left stunned after the sudden demise of the Australian great.

The spin wizard was found unresponsive by his friends at the villa on the island of Koh Samui. Warne’s four friends battled for 20 minutes to try and save the life of the Australian great but they failed to revive him.

First Test Between Sri Lanka And Australia To Be Dedicated To Shane Warne

The first Test match between Sri Lanka and Australia will be dedicated to the legendary leg-spinner, Shane Warne. Sri Lankans will stand to attention in a fitting salute to the spin wizard Shane Warne when the first Test gets underway.

Also, Shane Warne’s family has been invited to join the ceremony that would begin just before the commencement of the first Test.

Meanwhile, Warne was not a popular figure among Sri Lankans in the 1990s. However, he came to the country’s aid during the 2004 Tsunami devastation by visiting affected areas and making hefty donations, as a result, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) considers Warne as a true friend of Sri Lanka.
